Add products that are ready to sell
Your catalog starts here. By the end of this page you will have a complete product in your store, with a price shoppers understand, variants for every way you sell it, stock that tracks itself, and a status that controls when it goes live.
We will follow one product all the way through: a bottle of Bordeaux Rouge 2021 from a small coastal wine shop. Swap in your own products as you go.
The products list
Open E-commerce, then Catalog, then Products. This is home base for your catalog. Every product shows its image, name, status, price, and how much stock is left, so you can read the health of your shop at a glance.
| Product | Status | Price | Inventory |
|---|---|---|---|
Bordeaux Rouge 2021 BRDX-21 | Active | $28.00$34.00 | 12 in stock |
Riesling Eola-Amity Hills RSL-EAH | Active | $24.00 | 36 in stock |
Pinot Noir Reserve PNR-22 | Draft | $42.00 | Out of stock |
Search and filters
Search by name, then narrow by status (Active, Draft, Archived) or by source (Manual, Shopify) to find any product fast.
Bulk actions
Select several products at once to set their status or delete them together. Useful when a whole batch goes on or off sale.
Import and export
Bring a catalog in from a CSV file, or export your products to CSV with the fields you choose. A spreadsheet is often the fastest way to start.
Duplicate
Each row has a menu with Duplicate. Starting the 2022 vintage from a copy of the 2021 beats retyping everything.
Create your first product
Let us add the Bordeaux Rouge 2021. A sellable product only needs a handful of things: a clear title, a description that sells it, photos, and a category.
Click Add product in the top right of the products list. A blank product form opens.
Name it and describe it. The title is what shoppers see everywhere, so keep it plain: Bordeaux Rouge 2021. The description is rich text, so you can use headings, bold, and lists to tell the story of the wine.
Add your photos. Upload as many images as you like, then mark one as the featured image. The featured image represents the product in lists, collections, and search results.
Pick a category. Choose the closest match from the category picker, for example Wine. Categories help Mirin organize your catalog and set sensible defaults.
Save. New products start as drafts, so nothing appears on your storefront until you are ready. The rest of this page fills in pricing, variants, and stock.
The payoff. Once a product is complete, it works everywhere at once. The same title, photos, and price power your product page, your collections, your search results, and your checkout. Fill it in well once and you never chase it around the site.
Pricing
The Pricing card holds five fields. Only the first one is required, but the others do real work for you.
- Price
- What the shopper pays. For the Bordeaux, $28.00.
- Compare-at price
- The old or regular price. Set it higher than the price and shoppers see a markdown: the compare-at price crossed out next to the real one. Leave it empty for no sale display.
- Cost per item
- What the product costs you. Shoppers never see it. Mirin uses it to show your margin, so you know the $28 bottle that costs you $16 earns $12.
- Charge tax
- Whether tax applies to this product at checkout. Most physical goods keep it on.
- Unit price
- An optional per-unit display, like a price per 100 ml, built from a reference quantity and unit. Common for food and drink where shoppers compare sizes.
Options and variants
If you sell a product in more than one form, you do not create it twice. You add an option, and Mirin generates a variant for each value. The wine shop sells the Bordeaux as a single bottle and as a case of six, so it adds one option named Format with the values Bottle and Case of 6.
Every variant is its own sellable thing. Each one carries its own price, its own SKU, its own stock count, and its own image, so the case can cost $150 and show the case photo while the bottle stays at $28. With two options, like Format and Vintage, Mirin generates a variant for every combination.
| Variant | Price | SKU | Stock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bottle | $28.00 | BRDX-21-B | 12 |
| Case of 6 | $150.00 | BRDX-21-C6 | 4 |
Inventory and shipping fields
Two short cards on the product form keep you from overselling and keep delivery honest.
Inventory
- Track inventory
- Turn this on and Mirin counts stock down with every sale. The Bordeaux shows 12 in stock and stops selling at zero.
- SKU
- Your own code for the item, like BRDX-21-B. It shows on orders and exports so you and your supplier speak the same language.
- Barcode
- The scannable code on the label, if the product has one.
- Allow backorder
- Keep selling when stock hits zero. Good for products you can always get more of, risky for a vintage with 12 bottles left.
Shipping
- Requires shipping
- On for physical products, off for digital ones. Turning it off hides the shipping step for that product.
- Weight
- The shipping weight with its unit. Weight based shipping rates use it to price delivery.
- Customs fields
- A harmonized system code and country of origin, only needed if you ship across borders.
This is just the per-product view. Stock across warehouses and shop locations lives in Inventory, and the rates shoppers pay for delivery live in Shipping.
Organization and search engines
The Organization sidebar keeps a growing catalog manageable, and the SEO card controls how the product looks in a Google result.
- Product type
- A free label for what the product is, like Red wine. Handy for filtering your own list.
- Vendor
- Who makes or supplies it, like the producing estate.
- Tags
- Loose keywords you attach freely. Tags do quiet heavy lifting: automated collections can pull in every product with a matching tag.
- Collections
- The shelves your product sits on, like Bordeaux or Under $30. Add the product to collections here, or let rules do it. See Collections.
- Custom fields
- Extra structured data your products need, like varietal, region, or vintage for a wine shop. Custom fields can also power the filters shoppers use to browse. See Storefront.
The SEO card holds an SEO title of up to 70 characters, an SEO description of up to 160 characters, and the URL handle. Mirin shows a live preview of the Google result while you type, so you can see exactly what a searcher will read before they click.
Draft, active, archived
Status is the switch that controls what shoppers can see. Only active products appear on your storefront. Drafts and archived products never do.
Draft
The workbench. New products start here. You can take your time on photos and pricing because shoppers cannot see a draft.
Active
Live and for sale. The product appears on your storefront, in collections, and in search the moment you set it active.
Archived
Retired but kept. The 2021 vintage sells out, you archive it, and its history stays intact without cluttering your list. You can bring it back any time.
Products synced from Shopify
If your catalog syncs in from Shopify, those products show a Shopify source in the list and stay read-only in Mirin. Their row menu shows Edit as disabled, because Shopify still owns them and the next sync would overwrite your changes. To edit them here, either make the change in Shopify and let it sync over, or migrate.
