One product, many shelves

Open Collections in the E-commerce section of the navigation. A product can sit in as many collections as you like, so Bordeaux Rouge 2021 appears in Reds, Under $30 and Staff Picks without being copied.

How it fills

Chosen by hand, or By rule with the number of conditions it uses.

Visibility

A published collection has a page shoppers can open. A hidden one does not.

Kind and Show

Kind narrows the list to Chosen by hand or Filled by rule. Show narrows it to Published or Hidden.

Selected rows

Tick collections to Publish, Hide or Delete them together. Deleting a collection keeps its products in your store.

Choose by hand or fill by rule

Choose New collection and give it a title. Under How it fills, Kind decides how products get in, and you can change it later.

   Create the collection. Give it a title, leave Kind on Chosen by hand, and choose Create collection.

   Choose Add products. Find products by name and add them. Only active products are offered, and each one joins at the end of the list.

   Set the order. Use Move up and Move down, or Remove to take a product out. These changes apply straight away.

Write the conditions

Each condition picks a field, a comparison and a value, like Price is less than 30. Products join when they meet every condition, or any condition if you choose. What matches now lists the matches while you type, before anything is saved.

Words

Product tag, Product title, Product type, Vendor and Variant title. A tag compares with is or is not. The others also offer contains, does not contain, starts with and ends with.

Numbers

Price, Compare-at price, Stock and Weight compare with is, is not, is more than or is less than.

Set or not set

Price is reduced is set finds products that have a compare-at price. Compare-at price also offers is set and is not set.

Decide the order and who can see it

Visibility sits beside the collection’s details.

Published

Decides whether shoppers can see the collection. A new collection starts hidden, so you can finish it before anyone sees it.

Sort products

Sets the order on its page: The order you set, Best selling first, title from A to Z or Z to A, price from low to high or high to low, Newest first or Oldest first.

Add an image and a search listing

Image gives the collection a picture for its card and page.

Search listing

Sets what search engines show for the collection’s page. Each field counts as you type.

Feature collections on a page

A section that shows collections, such as your theme’s featured collections or a shop by style grid, can take its tiles from your store. Select the section on your page and open its Collections setting. Each tile shows the collection’s title, the first sentence of its description, its picture and how many products it holds, and they stay current, so renaming a collection or adding products to it changes the tile without editing the page. A collection with no picture of its own shows the picture of its first product.

A section whose collections were typed in by hand shows its old list with Use my store’s collections under it. Press it once and the section keeps its tiles in step with your store from then on. Swapping collections for a season is a matter of removing some and adding others here, and each tile keeps the words you gave it while it stays in the list.

Choose and order them

Add a collection lists your published collections with how many products each has. Move one up or down with its arrows, or remove it with the bin.

Write your own words

Press the pencil beside a collection to give its tile your own title, one line description of up to 80 characters, or picture. A field you leave empty keeps the store’s, and Use the store’s title, description and picture puts all three back.

Hidden ones are left out

A collection you hide or delete reads “Not on your site: hidden from this section”, and the section leaves it out. With none chosen, the section is hidden on your live page until you add one.

A slow moment keeps the cards

If your collections cannot be loaded just now, the setting says so and your live page keeps its last cards.

Or ask the chat

Ask for “a shop by style section with red, white and sparkling” and the chat fills the section the same way. Ask it to “give each tile a one line description” and it writes the words for every tile, leaving the collections as they are. Ask it to “swap Riesling for Rosé in Shop by style” and it changes the collection itself, in the same place. See Adding your products from the chat.

Where shoppers find collections

A collection shows up in four places once it is published.

• Every published collection has its own page at its address, like /collections/reds, laid out by your site’s collection page.
• A product’s Filing lists its collections, so you can add a product to more of them without opening each one.
• A featured collections section on any page shows the collections you choose as cards. See Feature collections on a page.
• A discount can apply to chosen collections. See Discounts.

Deleting a collection keeps its products. Pages that show the collection show nothing in its place until you pick another.

Add or remove products from the chat

While you edit a page, ask the chat in your own words, such as “add Corkscrew and Tasting Glasses to Staff Picks” or “take Sold Out Sparkling out of Reds”.

• Hand picked collections made in Mirin. Added products go to the end of the collection’s order, and products already in it are left where they are. A collection filled by conditions changes when its conditions do, so the chat points you to Collections instead.
• A draft first, made once. The draft lists each product and whether it is added or removed. Nothing changes until you press the button on the draft, and pressing it twice changes the collection once.
• Drafts last a day. After 24 hours the button changes nothing and the chat asks you to ask again.
• Synced collections change at their source. A collection that comes from Shopify or another platform is changed on that platform and syncs down. Mirin never writes back to it.
